Gregory House at 5th season of House

May 12th, 2009

House

Stories of a crazy doctor from Princeton-Plainsboro hospital are being followed by millions of people. What definitely attracts us mostly to the screens while House is on, is probably personality and acting of a main, title character – Hugh Laurie is a perfect man to this job, what he confirms even more in season 5.

I have finished watching 24th episode of 5th season like one hour ago. After that, I’m saying with complete sobriety – last minutes of season finale were the best moment of this show, and entire season is… an awesome one.

(Spoiler alert, by the way!)

Easiest to spot difference between the show in its early years and current ones is focusing on personal lives of characters. Obvious thing is, that they’re kind a running out of diagnostic ideas – but since those still are being made well, what kind of fan would I be to hold it against scriptwriters? Despite all real doctors among the watchers, who are criticising show for bad cases and patients, I’m ok with them, and even better about blending those to the background and putting constant characters to our attention.

This season begins with trauma after Amber-related events, then everything is stabilising to surprise us with a real bomb in last episodes, with Kutner’s death somewhere between those. I decided to skip first parts of the season (worth watching, though!) and move right on to the ending. Truly amazing things begin to happen in 21st episode. In last minute, after little House’s music performance, we see Amber. Yes, same one that died many episodes ago. She shows up as result of House’s fucked up brain and sticks with us to 23rd episode. God, even though I hated her she made that show totally different. Gave many thoughts of House, his decisions – this whole shit was highly psychodelical!

We also had detox. As linked tweet says, it’s just one-night long, but it’s been showed geniusly by Hugh. And then, House slept with Lisa Cuddy. Could pre-finale be any better?

I started watching last episode with same excitement that always stays with us during last… things. It’s always there for us. First minutes of last piece of House before September were cool. It felt like 1st or 2nd season back again – hillarious jokes (Wilson was rocking this part), I’m-a-selfish-bastard House and his fight with Cuddy. It all ended when he showed up at the lobby of hospital and, well… gave an announcement:

I slept with Lisa Cuddy.

My face at this moment wasn’t very different from everyone’s else at the hospital. Then events occured fast – Cuddy spelling the magic words you’re fired, and House’s visit in her office. Their talk inside was amazing, but what happened after totally blew my mind. Everything – detox, sex scene with Cuddy turned out to be made in House’s head (showed perfectly, by the way). My jaw totally landed on the floor right then. Also, two situations were awesomly contrasted at the ending – House on his way to psychiatric hospital with Wilson and Cameron’s & Chase wedding. Seriously, best moments of this show happened right there.

All I have to say is that I’m damn looking forward to September and 6th season. I’m wondering how will directors solve this situation, House’s change in the hospital and what the hell is about to happen.

Totally agree. I’ve had similar feelings when I was watching that awesome movie-episode. House is actually the best thing which I’m watchin’.

The other highly intersting thing was the right brain left brain issue throughout the episode. Quantum physics fans will rejoice at the apparent dimensional fractures and altrnate reality plugs. There is something to be said for making your own reality.

Is Dr. House crazy or is he enlightened?

NOw I have to wait for September to find out.
