Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion
April 16th, 2009
It has to be said up front: I’ve never reviewed any music. That’s my first time. And losing my virginity in this category has to work out great while being written with Animal Collective music in the background.
This Merriweather Post Pavilion has been released on 6th January this year as eighth album of Animal Collective. They’re music is mostly described as a freak folk or experimental pop, and I agree, there is no better way to describe their stuff (please, stop with indie rock – not every sound released since 2005 has a right to be called so) – perfect, folky vocals with lot of wild, catchy, not easy to describe sounds.
Their music, right from the beginning, attacks us with noisy, weird drones in In The Flowers. But as it turns out, it’s just nicely built song becoming an explosion of even crazier tunes around 2:30 with the only lyrics staying in our head – to hold you in time. Fair enough to be called awesome for me.
Then it gets even better with track called My Girls – so far only song on the album with a video – great one, obviously. Add charming lyrics and melody. Result is mindblowing.
Another track worth mentioning – best on the entire album, in my opinion – Bluish. Most importantly – it’s perfect. Starting with more smooth vocals in the verse, moving to incredible chorus – perfect… love song (seriously!). Sorry, but I just can’t describe it any better – tune in.
Put on the dress that I like It makes me so crazy, though I can’t say why Keep on your stockings for a while Some kind of magic in the way you’re lying there
As you can see the sample above – lyrics are gorgeuos (as on all songs on this album!). If you don’t wan’t to buy entire album – just get this track, you won’t regret it, and probably will get rest of songs anyway… ok, get the album.
All 11 tracks rock. I, as the person who wasn’t really into so freaky stuff, am amazed of the awesomeness of these most omptimistic songs ever. This album is probably just becoming one of my favorite ones and I can’t wait to check out other Animal Collective’s stuff. And I recommend you to do so. Necessarily.
